01
The basics
What is Stillee?
Stillee is an evidence-based mindfulness app for panic, sleep, and the rest of being human at 3 AM. It includes a free panic flow, a dedicated middle-of-the-night sleep mode, non-sleep deep rest tracks, breathing exercises, and multi-week programs. iOS first, Android planned.
Who is Stillee for?
Stillee is for adults who want a calm, evidence-grounded companion for sleep, anxiety, and panic, without a thousand-track catalog or a famous-voice celebrity guide. The panic flow is for anyone, paying or not.
Is Stillee therapy?
No. Stillee is a companion built on evidence-based practices, including MBSR, CBT-I-informed sleep tools, and clinically studied breathing techniques. It supports you. It does not diagnose or treat. If you are working with a therapist, it sits well alongside.
How is Stillee different from other meditation apps?
Three things. One: the panic flow is free and opens straight into guided breathing with no payment and no paywall. Two: there is a dedicated 3 AM mode that opens dim and silent, separate from bedtime content. Three: the catalog is small and curated by use case, not a thousand-track library that takes a tour to navigate.
02
Panic and acute anxiety
How does the panic flow work?
Tell Stillee about panic once, in onboarding, and the panic button lives on the home screen (Settings can turn it on or off any time). One tap opens a guided breathing flow that has already started. The default rhythm is cyclic sighing, the technique that outperformed mindfulness on mood and respiratory rate in a 2023 Stanford randomized controlled trial. You choose one of three textures, racing, drifting, or spiraling, and the flow adapts.
Is the panic flow really free?
Yes. Forever. No payment and no paywall on the panic flow. The acute relief surface is the part that has to work when nothing else can.
What if I dissociate during a panic attack?
A substantial minority of panic attacks include depersonalization or derealization, the sense of being outside your body or the room. The Stillee panic flow includes reality-anchor prompts that ask you to name what you see, hear, and touch. Standard breathing alone does not address dissociation; grounding does.
When should I call a crisis line instead?
If you are thinking about harming yourself, if you cannot keep yourself safe, or if the panic is not lifting after twenty or thirty minutes of focused breathing, please reach a person. In the US, call or text 988. Outside the US, findahelpline.com lists local services.
03
Sleep and 3 AM wakings
Why does Stillee have a separate 3 AM mode?
The middle of the night is a different cognitive state from bedtime. Most sleep content is written for someone going to sleep for the first time that night, which is the wrong tone for a brain that is already running. The 3 AM mode opens dim and silent, with content paced for nocturnal wakings.
What is cognitive shuffle?
Cognitive shuffle is a technique developed by sleep researcher Luc Beaudoin. You imagine a series of unconnected, neutral images, one at a time, for a few seconds each. The lack of semantic connection between them prevents the verbal mind from chaining into a narrative, which is what keeps the brain awake.
Is it better to stay in bed or get up at 3 AM?
CBT-I guidance suggests that if you are awake for more than about twenty minutes, getting out of bed and doing something quiet in low light, then returning when you feel sleepy, breaks the association between the bed and being awake. Staying in bed with the mind racing tends to reinforce that association over time.
Does Stillee track sleep?
If you opt in, Stillee can read recent sleep data from Apple Health (and Health Connect on Android, when that ships) to pre-fill your morning check-in. It does not measure your sleep itself. The data is used only to provide the feature; it is not shared and not used for marketing.
04
NSDR and breathing
What is NSDR?
NSDR stands for non-sleep deep rest. It is a guided practice that takes the body into a deeply restful state without sleeping, through a body scan, slow breathing, and a gentle lowering of attention. The framing was popularized by Andrew Huberman as a brain-friendly description of Yoga Nidra, which is its source tradition. Stillee has tracks at 8, 20, and 60 minutes.
How long should an NSDR session be?
The most studied dose is 20 minutes. Eight minutes is enough for a small reset between tasks. The 60-minute track follows a fuller Yoga Nidra structure and goes deeper.
What breathing patterns does Stillee include?
Cyclic sighing as the panic-flow default, plus coherent slow-paced breathing, extended exhale, box breathing, 4-7-8 (with a gentler variant for pregnancy and panic-prone profiles), humming exhale, alternate nostril, and two activation patterns. They are organized into four Shapes named for what they do, and screened against your profile for contraindications.
Is cyclic sighing the same as the physiological sigh?
Yes. The two terms refer to the same pattern: two short inhales through the nose followed by a long exhale through the mouth. Physiological sigh is the neurobiology term. Cyclic sighing is the clinical-trial term used in the 2023 Stanford paper.
05
Programs and practice
How do the multi-week programs work?
Each program is a structured sequence of short sessions, brief readings, and journal prompts that build on each other across the weeks. They are written to go somewhere, not to be a long catalog of unrelated meditations.
Can I do a program at my own pace?
Yes. The weeks are a suggested rhythm, not a deadline. Stillee does not surface streak penalties or notifications that pressure you back if you miss a session. If a program asks more than your week has, the right answer is to slow down.
What does Stillee mean by "evidence-based"?
It means each practice is grounded in clinical or experimental evidence that we can name. MBSR for the 8-week course. Stanford 2023 for cyclic sighing. CBT-I for the sleep tools. Yoga Nidra clinical literature for NSDR. Where the evidence is mixed, we say so.
06
Pricing and account
How much does Stillee cost?
The panic flow is free. The full library and the programs are included in the subscription. Pricing lives on the home page, and the exact price is always shown before you pay.
Why is Stillee priced the way it is?
We are not priced like libraries. No thousand-track catalog you will never finish, no famous voice you did not ask for, no marketing budget you are paying for. One guide your nervous system can learn to trust, one small catalog where every track was made for a specific moment.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You manage and cancel through your Apple account settings (and Google Play, once Android ships). Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the current period. Refunds go through the store under their policies.
Is Android coming?
iOS first. Android is planned. Join the list and tell us your platform.
07
Journal, moods and privacy
How does mood tracking work in Stillee?
You log how you feel in a few seconds, choosing from a large vocabulary of specific states rather than a five-emoji scale. Entries build into a month calendar and a year-in-pixels grid in the Insights tab, where you can see distributions, trends, and patterns, and tap anything for an explanation of what it means.
What is a "year in pixels"?
One small colored square for every day you log, 365 of them on one screen. It's the fastest honest answer to "how has this year actually been?" Memory keeps the dramatic moments; the pixels keep everything.
Can I search my journal?
Yes. Search reaches through everything you've written, journal entries, reflections, gratitude notes. Type a word and jump straight back to the exact entry, whenever it was.
Is my journal private?
Two separate protections. First, the journal is excluded from our analytics by design, what you write is never part of how we measure the app. Second, your entries are encrypted at rest on our servers: if our systems were ever breached, your words would be unreadable, and the encryption keys are stored separately from the data. To be precise: this is encryption at rest, not end-to-end encryption, it's what lets you recover your entries if you lose your phone.
Does Stillee give me a wellness score?
No. Scores flatten a complicated month into a number nobody can explain. We show you your own record, moods, patterns, trends, and every stat can be tapped to see exactly how it is computed.
Will the app guilt me about streaks?
No. Your streak appears in Insights as quiet proof of practice, and that's all it does. It never pushes, never pings you at night, and a missed day doesn't erase anything that mattered.
